Montblanc seems to be eager to become a part of the society of watch makers, and not just a part, but an essential part – it pretends to the title of an innovator and explorer.
Many of Montblanc novelties of this year really deserve attention. For instance, the improved
Nicolas Rieussec. This unique chronograph that for the first time was presented to public in 2008 now has a silicon dioxide escapement. This material is 60% more solid than steel and at the same time it is 70% lighter than steel. This is very important for the mechanism, because with silicone dioxide it does not need lubrication. Also it decreases friction and saves energy. All these features lead to higher accuracy. Nicolas Rieussec became the world’s first chronograph with silicone escapement. No one expected a manufacturer of pens to introduce anything like this.
However, this is not all. Another chronograph - Villeret ExoTourbillon Chronographe – also features a new patented invention. This timepiece is a regulator watch with absolutely unprecendented tourbillon with a balance larger than the tourbillon’s cage and positioned outside it. The watch features large centrally axial-minute hand, a distinct hour display, an indicator for the time in a second time zone and a subdial for the seconds. Due to its new construction the watch is lighter and much more accurate.
Together with these innovation models Montblanc presented an elegant women’s model, a very
large lineup of automatic chronographs for very reasonable price, among them there is Montblanc Sport Series Automatic watch that is designed specially for those who like stylish and accurate sports watches.
There was one more project – Metamorphosis. These watches combine the principles of traditional watch making with unprecedented innovations. The model features a large and teardrop-sharped case and a dial that offers an unusual display of time. This is also known as “civil time”. There is a regulator-style subdial with Roman numerals that occupies the 12 o’clock position and a retrograde minute-hand that sweeps its arc between 8 and 4 from the center of main dial. The seconds hand completes one full circle per minute, it shares the same central axis.
There is a hand-type date display, it is located at 6 o’clock. The hands indicate the current civil time and the date. Pull the slide on the left hand flank downward from the 10 and 8 and see miracle – the watch will transform into a chronograph within about 15 minutes.
Presently Metamorphosis watches are crafted at the manufacture’s ateliers in Villeret by the Institute Minerva’s experienced master watchmakers. Only 28 pieces of this fantastic model are available for those lucky watch connoisseurs each of whom will enjoy the privilege to wear a Montblanc Metamorphosis watch on his wrist. An owner of a Montblanc Metamorphosis watch will definitely be always in the center of attention - this watch will inevitably draw attention of everyone.
