Jaeger leCoultre Duometre Power ReservePerhaps, one of the most famous horology complications is chronograph. The first complication of this kind appeared in the 18th century. The elapsed time was recorded in ink on the watch dial by means of a fountain pen at the end of a seconds hand. Clearly, nowadays chronographs are much more sophisticated. Until recently, it even seemed that everything that could be done in this area had already been done. But Jaeger-LeCoultre with its Jaeger leCoultre Duometre Power Reserve has proved that there is still a lot to do in this field.

What makes this timepiece stand out among numerous watches with chronograph mechanisms is a radically new construction of the device. Normally, chronograph and timekeeping functions have the same power source. But making the Jaeger leCoultre Duometre Power Reserve, the watchmakers of the company have managed to separate the chronograph function of the timepiece from the timekeeping one. Using two separate gear trains and power sources, they do not interfere with each other and deliver maximum accuracy.

These two independent watch mechanisms are housed in a classic round case featuring an extremely readable dial. Two sub-dials of the same size are arranged symmetrically around a central timing hand. One with the regular hour and minute hands is positioned at 10 o’clock, while another with the chronograph hour and minute hands is located at 2 o’clock. The dial also features a jumping-seconds counter, indicating one-sixth of a second.

Despite the complexity of the functions of the Jaeger leCoultre Duometre Power Reserve, they are very easy to operate. The chronograph mechanism can be started, stopped and reset by means of a single push piece at 2 o’clock.
