Perhaps, no watchmaking company has such a rich history as Breguet. The official clock and watch maker of the French court from the time of Louis XIV, the brand of choice of Queen Marie-Antoinette, Wellington and Napoleon, Breguet is still famous today. The company specializes in making mechanical watches of great technical workmanship that are among the most sought-after timepieces in the field.
The timepiece that best expresses the philosophy of the brand is probably the Breguet Classique Mechanical watch. The 39mm case of the timepiece is just the right size: not too small, not too large. Like all magnificent watches of the old times, the Breguet Classique Mechanical has a “guilloche” mother-of-pearl dial which means that it was engraved with intricate patterns by hand. The dial features an extremely clear layout, nothing extra: just the hour and minute hands, Roman numerals marking twelve hours and the small seconds dial at 6 o’clock.
The timepiece is powered by a manually wound movement providing a 46 hours power reserve. It features a gold central rotor decorated with an engine-turned pattern and can be admired through a sapphire crystal case-back. The brand holds strictly to its disputable policy of not using quartz movements.
The Breguet Classique Mechanical is water-resistant only up to 30 m that is considered quite small nowadays. But then again why would you need to engage in water sports activities wearing a dress watch?
As all Breguet Classique watches, the timepiece comes with a hand-sewn crocodile leather strap and a buckle in yellow or white gold.
